Natural population growth in "developed" countries is close to 'nil (2
people, on average, produce 2 people).  Increases in population in
"developed" countries is largely due to net increases in immigration.  [in
Quebec, natural population growth is negative; only immigration sustains the
current population]

Natural population growth is almost exclusively a function of "developing"
countries.  Traditionally, more children were born because some children
died.  Living children were the only means of providing for one's parents as
they aged.

An escape from poverty and an increase in living standards are associated
with decreased population growth.
