Hi Mary,

as well as fish oil?>>

One could not eat enough grass-fed meat to get 10 grams a day of
omega-3's. More importantly, DHA is directly available from fish and fish
oil, whereas the EPA in meats must be converted in the body to render DHA.
The hypothesis is that many people have difficulty with this conversion due
to other vitamin and mineral deficiencies, or due to absorption problems.

Any brand of fish oil as long as it is obtained from natural ocean fatty
fish and not overly processed will work. I prefer those with added Vit C
and E as antioxidants. Rachel has mentioned Carlson's as being something her
children will take. It is a liquid formula which is easier for children
than capsules. I tried Coromega. It is an emulsion that comes in small
foil packets. It tastes fine but I am skeptical about their processing
methods (pasteurized egg yolk, vegetable oil, sodium benzoate, potassium
sorbate, xanthan gum, stevia leaf extract, vanillin, guar gum, etc.). They
claim it is highly bioavailable compared to gel cap formulas. They publish
a chart showing this but conspicuously absent from the information is the
names of brands used in thier comparison testing. Each packet contains 350
mg. EPA and 230 mg. DHA.
My final reason to be skeptical is that they will sell only to doctors.

I've tried Dale Alexander's liquid formula also. It's nasty. I'm sure
Rachel would be glad to share her experiences with Carlson's with you.

Siobhan
