I have been searching for a long time for fish oils suitable for a paleolithic diet and came to the conclusion that the majority of them are in fact heavily processed and refined. Why these products are recommended on paleolithic websites is a mystery.

Interestingly, races like the Eskimos and the Australian Aborigines consumed very high quality fats, and while a lot of supplement companies claim to have the best fish oils, the majority of them are heavily refined and processed. Those claiming to be unrefined are actually extracted using steam distillation.

Very recently, I came across a very unique company and thought others may be interested in it. I say company, but they are actually made up of a long line of Norwegian fishermen living in the remote areas of Northern Norway. They are producing a brilliant handcrafted oil – ROSITA wild ratfish liver oil – which is extracted using no heat, chemicals, or mechanical pressure whatsoever. They are even highly selective about the livers they use (and never frozen, only fresh) and will only use fish caught during certain seasons. Apparently, the Norwegian Vikings ranked this oil above all other oils, including the common cod liver oil, but because ratfish are so difficult to get hold of, they termed this oil “Gold of the Ocean.” The guys use an ancient principle based on nature’s seasons to produce this oil. Trouble is, their oil is produced in very limited quantities.

I contacted them and they told me that they were not into mass marketing and instead preferred those who have tried their oil to spread the word. They even told me that I was free to pay them a visit and watch the whole process myself!
I ordered a 50 ml bottle and it is just amazing. They have even had it tested at the University of Stirling, and apparently it is very high in rare immune-supporting lipids called alkyglycerols. Their website is:

They also describe how they harvest the fish and produce the oil:

It is amazing that they are not into mass marketing considering the fact that they have such a unique and real paleolithic-quality oil. And a real unprocessed food unlike the rubbish out there.

I write this (I have also written on other paleo sites too) with the aim of letting others know about this oil. The guys in Norway have no idea I am doing this, but I thought others deserve to know about this amazing oil.
