When I traveled through Europe I got used to the campground toilets 
(cement holes in the ground with places for each foot while you squat).  
I tried it on my home toilet once, but the seat isn't designed for that 
and I was teetering on falling over.  Thanks Mr. Crapper!  (campaigner 
for the modern flush toilet).  I believe that someone makes a more 
robust seat/top for those who prefer to squat.  Here's one:
