Ray may have said this, but that doesn't mean it's correct.  (Also note that
Ray himself does not eat raw meat.)

The human animal appeared in its modern form about 2 million years ago (see
"The Paleolithic Prescription", Eton Boyd et al).  The most recent evidence
says that humans have had the use of fire for at least 1.5 million years.
That means that humans had the use of fire for virtually their time on earth.
