The August 2001 issue of Harpers Magazine includes a personal essay by
a writer/cattle rancher who is raising a grassfed herd on a "primitive"
(his words) ranch in Bolivia.  He compares his operation with the
"habitual malpractice" typical of the North American cattle industry,
outlining very clearly, for example, the staggering number of diseases
(and therefore drugs) North American cattle suffer, compared to the
relatively few ailments experienced by his own herd.
