Hi all ,
FWIW. I learned from feeding species appropriate raw prey model to my fur kids ......................
If you get *fresh* *wild caught* salmon from the Pacific Northwest (northern Ca up to southern Alaska), you should freeze the fish solid for a couple of weeks before feeding. PNW salmonids (including trout) have the possibility of harboring a parasite which has a fluke that can cause salmon poisoning in dogs.

A good solid freeze kills said organism dead. Farmed salmon from the PNW and wild salmon from other areas don't carry the parasite and don't require freezing.

FWIW, fresh wild never frozen PNW salmon is so expensive in my area that it's off the menu for me. On the off chance I could get it for cheap I'd eat most of it, and maybe leave the leftovers for the critters.

Hi William,

It's funny that you ask that, I love salmon the most. I've heard that
you
shouldn't eat raw salmon because of some parasite, but I've never
gotten
sick from it.
