This topic is discussed at great length, along with many other relevant issues
(including insulin, glucagon, fatty acids, eicosanoids, Growth Hormone, IGF-1,
Thyroid, Cortisol, DHEA, Melatonin, Seratonin, Testosterone and Estrogen) in
Dr. Barry Sears' new book "The Anti-Aging Zone" (easily his most technical book
to date).

If this is of interest, currently the least expensive source is:

http://www.netrition.com/books.html#TheAntiAgingZone

(I have no connection to them, just a satisfied customer.)
