I recall reading about a study done with african
americans, who are also, as a group intolerant of milk
products, who slowly added milk to their diet and
their lactose enzymes increased so they could tolerate
the milk.

I think there are also people, like my father, who
never become tolerant even when they eat small amounts
of milk products.  I don't have any problem with milk
products but I'm northern european, celtic, slavic and
germanic, and, I understand they are the group with
the fewest problems(?).  What happened with my father,
I don't know.
