I was under the impression that the energy intake required for a human  
is what you would expect based on our size and mass, because the extra  
energy required for our brain is balanced by a reduced energy  
requirement for our digestive system.  I've always assumed this is the  
reason we humans require so much more fat and/or carbs with our lean  
meat than, say, dogs.
