Yes, I have. There are several black walnut trees on my family's property  
(and hickory, pecan, and plenty of oak if you like acorns).  Indeed they  
are better when fresh, as is most any food.  But that doesn't stop me  
squirreling away a bag or two of them for the rest of the year.  They're  
still plenty tasty in January.
