I tried some coconut oil, bought at an Indian food store. It wasn't
organic, and it had been sitting unrefrigerated on the shelf for about a
year, so my experience may not be comparable (in retrospect, I should never
have purchased an oil of questionable quality). I only used it to fry
sunflower seeds, but there was something about the oil's smell and
(after)taste which made me vaguely uneasy.

Yes. Ever since I switched to a low-carb diet, my sensitivity to sugar has
definitely become more pronounced. Once, while I was at my parents' house,
and desperate for a snack, I ate a couple of apples. Before I had finished
the second apple, I was scrambling to find a source of protein as I felt an
uncomfortable sugar rush. (And to think that I used to binge on
cookies....) Of course, my parents sometimes worry that I'm
not eating enough carbs.
