History means evidence. Nomadic hunter-gatherers would have left little or
no evidence, so it seems more a matter of speculation, as in "What could
they have done?" than faith.

Re bad reaction - most if not all modern wines contain sodium
metabisulphate, I think this is a preservative, if so, an allergic
reaction is not surprising.
