From what I've heard the rabbits raised today as pets, were originally the same as raised for food.
The difference of course would be the diet fed the domesticated ones (mostly alfalfa, grain, etc...)
would have an effect on the nutrient/mineral density of said critter.
I buy locally grown rabbits for a delicious stew (paleo stew-no potatoes)
I have found that rabbit meats tastes and has the consistency of chicken thighs...not quite "white meat" not quite red meat.

Simple Rabbit Stew:
2 - 3 lbs. rabbit meat, bone included.
Celery, zucchini, carrots (not quite paleo, but tasty, a little too high in carbs for some), onions, garlic, seasalt, pepper, (I always sub zucchini for recipes that call for potatoes)
spices of choice ( I like thyme or marjoram)
Beef or chicken broth,
arrowroot flour for browning.
Lightly flour and season the rabbit with salt and pepper,
Brown in a good cast iron skillet with a little olive oil
Place veggies in a crock pot or dutch oven.
Place rabbit on top
Add a little bit of broth (not too much), cover and
Simmer in Dutch oven over low to medium heat for about 1 hour maybe 2.
Cook in Crock pot for about 4 hours on high or 6 hours on low.
