Um, in Neanderthin sugar is pretty much the Anti-Christ (well, sugar really
shares that position with grain). It's one of the reasons many of us are
sick in some way or another (i.e. diabetes, obesity), and it's to be
avoided at all costs. Please don't take me the wrong way here, but if
you're suggesting to someone to use sugar, you probably need to start
reading up on this topic.

The main thrust of what we're doing here is trying to eat only foods that
would have been available to our ancestors without technology. Highly
refined foods such as sugar and starches are definitely out, as well as any
food for which technology is required in order for it to be edible, such as
grains and beans. So extremely concentrated versions of "natural" foods
are also to be avoided. Think of it this way: how could the human body
possibly be prepared to deal with sugar when there was no sugar until just
recently? Another way to look at it: stick to whole foods that are edible
raw. That way you can't go wrong.

Another problem with using sugar at all is that it perpetuates the cravings
that this person is obviously having so much trouble breaking. As tough as
it sounds, there is only one answer here, and it's "cold turkey". My
suggestion to this person (I'm sorry, I don't remember your name right now)
would be to fill up on low-carb Neaderthin-allowed foods and drink water
until you think you're going to burst. Yes, the first few days might be
tough. But you're doing yourself a disservice by continuing to allow your
dependence on sugar and artificial sweeteners. Whether you use real sugar
or artificial sweeteners, the body reacts to the taste. So even if you're
using Sweet 'N' Low, you can still be perpetuating your dependence on
refined sugar. What you really need to do is get away completely from
sweet foods to give your body a rest. Your taste will adjust as well.
Someone suggested putting a little orange juice in your tea. I'd say
stick to water for a few weeks, then when you go back to your tea, the
little bit of orange juice will probably be sufficient.

I hope this helps!

I'd suggest sticking to plain old sugar rather than the newfangled
chemicals; at least it started out as the sap of a real plant. Besides, --
those of you with more technical expertise, pelase check me on this one --
cane sugar is chemically not much different from the fructose found in
fruit, so I think technically, sugar is "Caveman kosher." Just don't eat
the huge quantities that you find in modern snacks, drinks, and condiments.
