We carry ours with us at all times, and never leave them in the car. If we
accidentally do, we make an assessment as to whether the temperature was
extreme enough to warrant replacement. So far, we haven't considered using
a cooler, but that seems like a good idea for spares in the car.

And also, it is a good way for those with needle-phobia to get past their
initial resistance and in a place where they wouldn't hesitate (too much)
where the need to arise.
