I'm not going to say that a baby can't be allergic to its Mother's milk but
I would find it much more likely that the baby is allergic to something
that the mother is eating and it is coming through the milk.

My son was born very allergic to casein (from cow's milk) (now that he is 6
he is much better) but he never had a problem with my milk. I have lactose
intolerance and never had much milk products when pregnant and stopped
totally when he was born.

If my son got milk (or butter) on him (now just on his face) he would break
out in a rash. I always tested my breastmilk on him and there was never a
reaction. I breastfed him until 3 years old and until that time he wouldn't
even try soy milk substitutes. He now has soy milk, tofu, etc. and loves
it all.

He still reacts to milk or butter put on his face, but when I test ghee
(clarified butter) he has never had a reaction. I find ghee a great butter
substitute. If made correctly, it has no dairy in it except for some
charred particles of casein.
