There is an appropriate range for substances in various
contexts. For daily protein intake the typical range is 60-150gm,
depending on your size and level of physical activity.

Whoa! Dear Ilia,

Appropriate range? Whose range is that? Do we need 60 grams of protein
or 28? Do we need 1200 mg of dietary calcium or 1500? When the
"APPROPRIATE" RDA was recently raised for calcium everybody in America
accepted the change...but me! I called FDA and said, "Why did you
change the RDA?" They said, "We didn't do it...USDA did it."

I then called USDA and said, "Why did you change the RDA?" They
responded, "We didn't do it...FDA did it."

Well, I finally got around to who did it...The National Science
Foundadtion. I then investigated the names of the committee members of
the NSF and was astounded to recognize names from Cornell with Dairy
connections and members of the National Fluid Milk Processing Board.

Appropriate range? A man in Taiwan ingests 15 mg of calcium from dairy
each day and men in Taiwan have no bone disease. Hmmm..

Appropriate range? I've heard that phrase before from double-talking
scientists at FDA who assure us that levels of antibiotics in milk are
in the appropriate range. (They omit telling us that in January of 1990
they changed the appropriate range by increasing the allowable levels of
antibiotics in milk by 100 times.)

I like you Ilya. You have a two questions and comments for every one of
mine. If you like, I'll take this conversation private? I imagine the
rest of the list is getting tired of this.

Other members...Please let me know! :>)
