There are a lot of different medical tests that can be done, but the
best test is the test of experience.  If you eat something and it makes
you sick, you will usually try not to eat it again.  Sometimes it has
taken us years to find our allergies (usually because the offending food
is simply in everything - like my corn allergy), sometimes days (like my
orange juice allergy, it can be isolated quickly).  We still have a few
we can't track down in my family, but we will continue to try.
