My understanding is that your calcium levels have to be very
low before it will show up in your blood levels, because
your body will pull calcium out of your bones to maintain
the levels in the blood.
I find I don't sleep all that well when I stop taking my
calcium pills.
I have read that too little calcium causes leg cramps, so I
would recommend a calcium supplement. I think about 800 to
1000 mg a day is right. Please someone correct me if I'm
wrong. Buy ones which are dairy free and sorbitol free.
Take them with food, but not with your regular vitamin pill.

Case study of one: My Dad drinks very little milk and gets
leg cramps which go away when he goes back on calcium
supplements.
