Hi Dana -

You've already received several good suggestions for your daughter's diet. My
daughter has similar allergies (dairy, egg, peanut and mild soy). She is also
small for her age, but healthy, so I've almost stopped worrying (!)

Soy milks definitely have more fat, calories and protein than rice milk. An
infant/toddler type formula will also work, maybe mixed with something else
so it tastes better.

I would not recommend using nuts or nut butters, with the food allergies you
already have. These are worth avoiding for at least a couple more years.

Use olive oil (or other oil) whenever you cook something. One thing that kids
seem to love and is high in fat/calories is quick breads and muffins. Pumpkin
bread, banana bread, blueberry muffins, etc. The old-fashioned recipes from
our parents day have alot of oil in them! Spread maragarine (dairy-free) on
her snack crackers, bread, potatoes, veggies, etc.

Also, I've not found any supplemental drink (Carnation, etc) that is not dairy
or soy. Haven't looked lately to see if there is a soy-only one, now that
Alyssa can tolerate soy foods OK. That might be worth a look - maybe at a
health food store.

And, remember, weight is only one indicator of health. Many toddlers don't
gain any weight from 18-24 months. They're just too busy running, jumping
and moving! Alyssa had a major growth spurt this past summer, and gained a
few pounds.

Laurie (and Alyssa)
