I don't really know about Belgium, but here in Spain it is true that
foods are a lot less processed than they seem to be there (luckyly,
at least so far). So we can eat as you say many "easy" things which
have no milk. I just have to keep away from diary foods and processed
meats, cooked dishes such as lasagne, etc. But many other things are
safe (fruit, fish, meat, vegetables...) and for us they are also much
cheaper than ready-made foods. For instance, here there is no fortified
orange juice as 90% of people do their own orange juice at home from
oranges, it's much cheaper. Or we buy fresh fish which is also much
cheaper than canned tuna, etc.
