No, that's the nail itself.  It's not the skin under the nail (the nail
bed).

Most people have a pinkish tone (even ghostly white folks like me).  The
white isn't an allergy sign per se, it's a sign of oxygen deprivation.
It's terribly obvious when it turns gray/blue.  Push down hard on one
of your nails and the nail bed should turn white.  _That_ is the type
of white I'm talking about.  You can see a similar reaction when your
hands are cold.  It's from the normal vasoconstriction reaction.  It's
when your hands are white/blue all the time that it's a danger sign.
