How long are you planning on trying the CFGF diet? Usually, the time frame
for seeing a response is 2-4 weeks, I think. If that is the case, the
body's stores of calcium should be sufficient for the change. Fish
(particularly with bones - i.e., salmon) and greens (i.e., spinach) are good
sources of calcium, too.

If you don't see a response from eliminating dairy and wheat, then you know
that it is not the problem, and can go back to consuming it. If it is the
problem, however, you could slowly integrate soy or calcium supplements into
the diet and observe for adverse effects. Do one and then the other to
determine the cause of any adverse effects.

You might consider keeping a diary of eating and bowel habits. These give
alot of insight to look through a 14-day or so time frame and examine for
patterns of foods ingested and stools produced. (Not an Oprah journal by any
means :). And, off-topic for dairy, I know, but a little-known nursing
intervention for constipation is for the patient to assume a squatting
position. It is surprisingly very helpful in passing stools to raise the
knees as much as possible when having difficulty. Again, I
know....off-topic, but probably something very useful at one time or another
for all of the LI and allergic people on the list.

Hope this helps.
Elizabeth
