You can search for kosher restaurants by city or state at

The restaurant information specifies whether the food is dairy, pareve,
or meat.  Pareve and meat are completely safe.

You can also try to find vegan-friendly restaurants at

http://www.vegdining.com/Home.cfm

Many of the restaurants described themselves as "mostly vegan" and the
staff at those places should know all about avoiding dairy and which
dishes are safe.  I would avoid the mostly dairy vegetarian restaurants.
