I did not respond to Susan's email (I have been blocking her since early 2006 so I never see what she writes unless somebody quotes her, which is not often) but I'd like to stress Robyn's point:

Any statement made in a public forum is fair game for others.
Moreover, making the statement is implicitly considered an invitation to deconstruct it.

So yes, everybody is entitled to an opinion but if they state their opinion, they should be prepared to accept flak for it and defend it.
