Lisa--
I think I missed the original question (just got added to list and saw
someone else's reply), but if you're asking if there's a connection between
ADD-type behavior and allergies, I vote with a resounding YES!!!!
My three year old son was diagnosed at 2 1/2 with allergies to milk, wheat
and bananas. He was bouncing off the walls, besides wheezing and having an
ear infection every time I turned around. Since his diet has changed, I
have discovered a REAL BOY inside the Tasmanian Devil I gave birth to.
Granted, he still has his days, but he went from using crayons and puzzle
pieces as trajectories to actually being able to focus long enough to color
and put a puzzle together. I can take him grocery shopping without his
taking all his clothes off. And he is actually well-behaved (for a kid) in
preschool this year!!!!
He's still got a ways to go before he can entertain himself for long periods
of time without destroying something, but he can sit for 10-20 minutes
"reading" books to himself. That, to me, is a miracle!
As for the mood swings, he's got 'em, but they seem to occur mostly when
he's tired... and a friend of mine whose boy has asthma said the tiredness
can result from a lack of oxygen during asthma flare-ups, even before other
symptoms show.
Hope this applies to your question.
Jeanne
