This is very interesting, but where do people who develop LI long after
weaning fit in.  I developed severe LI suddenly a few years ago (about the
age of 30) with no identifiable external cause of the onset.  My
understanding is that the onset of LI at about that age is not uncommon.
Since the age of 30 is about 29 or so years after weaning, what enables a
genetically LI person like myself to digest lactose for those first 29
years?  Is there perhaps a gene that functions to produce lactase only until
a certain period in life, after which it shuts down in whole or in part?
