 while the wait staff may be truly annoyed at a customer, I have never
 seen anyone retaliate in the manner you suggest.  I wonder if this is
 yet another urban legend.

Don't you watch Real TV videos!  They do retaliate! Certainly not everyone,
but if the staff gets "huffy" we LEAVE- I'd rather leave hungry than in an
ambulance!
