Hello!

I'm Krista from Alberta, relatively new to the list, responding to the
person who wanted a milk-allergy buddy (accidentaly deleted the original
message). I also have a few questions:
  I have a 4-year-old daughter and a 19-month-old son with suspected
milk allergies, and was wondering if I could get some help in
understanding milk allergies. I have been extremely frustrated with the
medical profession in this area, finding that the 4 doctors I have
consulted are unwilling/able to take a stand and work with me on my
son's reactions to milk.
He had extreme nasal stuffiness from the moment he was born-so much
that you could hear him breathing from the next room. His pediatrician
wrote it off as a cold, but it was so bad, I couldn't accept this, and
my chiropractor suggested that I eliminate milk from my diet (I was
nursing). That cleared things up! Great, but the doctors I saw were
very skeptical, and insisted that simply eliminating milk would not
possibly do this. So, when it was time to wean him, I tried cow's milk
formula, which he threw up. Still, they insisted that it was a fluke
(but I used soy, which was fine, after that). So I eventually gave him
a bit of ice cream, since I was still a little confused, and because his
sister was having some. Then he developed a facial rash that lasted
over an hour.
He eats mostly soy products now, but (and I feel a bit guilty) I don't
totally eliminate milk from his diet, and he doesn't seem to have
problems. He can eat pancakes and baked goods and margarine with milk
products, and doesn't seem to have any problems with it. Does anyone
know about this? Does he have a milk allergy? Or is it a cow protein
allergy? I can't find a doctor to help me on this, so please let me
know!
Thanks for your time
Krista
