Where did you get the information on casein? Before I was
Lactose Free I had a very sore spot near my left kidney and
my mom had the same pain. Always thought it was the
LI but because being Lactose Free has eliminated the pain.
But I would like to know about the fuzzy thinking? If you
have been LI or casein senstive for a long time how would
you know if your thinking was fuzzy? Sarah
Dear Sarah:
I threw in the symptoms of kidney pain and fuzzy thinking
because these are my own symptoms. I must admit that I have
just assumed that the kidney pain is a protein allergy and
not LI, but I have never been tested. What I think happens
is that I make antibodies (proteins) against an antigen (in
this case milk or some part of it) and end up with
antigen-antibody complexes. Because these are large
'clumps' of cells they hurt when they go through my kidneys.
My kidneys don't hurt when I don't drink milk but maybe I
should try drinking Lactaid.
I was lucky. My brother had back/kidney pains for four years
before his chiropractor/naturopath suggested he try not
drinking milk. I developed the symptoms when I was the same
age as he was, so I just stopped drinking milk.
Losing the 'fuzzy thinking' has been a bonus. I thought I
was getting early Alzheimers or something, but when I
stopped drinking milk I was much more clear-headed. Others
on the List have mentioned that their thinking is fuzzy when
they drink milk, but maybe people don't realize it until
they stop.

P.S. Thanks Ellen for the vanilla pudding recipe. Mmmm. I
will be surching the stores for agar flakes this Saturday.

P.S.2. To the parents on this List, I think you are amazing.
Three cheers for all of you, for helping your kids feel so
much better.
