I saved this information from Robin and I just did a web search on the
KitchenAid k45ss. I just ordered one thru Amazon.com for $169.99 by starting
from http://www.ekitchendepot.com/samixers.html.  That included the free
shipping.  I told dh that I was ordering my Christmas present.  His reply
was 'oh? ok.'  Love husbands like that.! The reviews on it were pretty good
also.

Hi.  We just received the new issue of Consumer Reports and they compared
mixers.  In a nutshell the KitchenAid k45ss classic was rated the highest.
This is their little mixer, sometimes called the "classic".  The next one
was the KitchenAid ksm90ps Ultra power, which costs $40 more but they
performed exactly the same.  Third is their fancy KitchenAid the
professional 6 for around $365, which was more  powerful but they didn't
feel it is worth the money.  The next one was a Hamilton Beach 60690 for
around $78, then the Sunbeam 2366 mixmaster for $140, Kenmore 69239ksm035
for $110, and the last one was a Hamilton Beach 64586 clean mix for $32.

These were all stand mixers.  They also had hand mixers, but I assumed you
wanted a stand mixer.  Their comments on the Hamilton Beach (#4)was
that the bowl needed to be rotated manually for most applications and the
beaters were not interchangable.  This model did make a 2 loaf batch of
bread dough, as well as the first two KitchenAids.
Btw, I have the first one, the KitchenAid k45ss and I love it, use it almost
daily and it's never had a problem in the 8 or 9 years I've had it.
