Hello all, I've just recently joined the list and have been lurking and
reading with interest. I have been recommended to go dairy-free (among
other things) by my naturopath to manage a whole range of hormonal and sugar
imbalances, peri-menopause, hypoglycaemia (erratic sugar levels) as well as
osteo-arthritis in various parts of the old bod, and fybromyalgia-type
symptoms. The most troublesome symptoms, apart from pain from the osteo, are
fatigue, depression, which certainly includes teariness and a feeling that
those damn tears are only just there lurking, waiting to come out at the
slightest provocation, (you should see me crying at advertisements for
tissues...you know the ones with the cute baby chickens!!) and definitely
brain-fog...loss of concentration, inability to remember things,(I know I
put those car keys somewhere!!!) and that terribly frustrating "losing
words" thing. Having now read some of the stuff on the net about the evils
of milk and milk products I wonder how come we have all been freely drinking
and eating the stuff for so many years. When I was a kid we lived on dairy
farms in England and of course milk was a major part of our diets, and this
has continued throughout my life (I'm now 48, and until 2 weeks ago cheese
was one of my favourite foods) and I passed that particular piece of wisdom
(?) on to my children, both of whom have suffered from chronic URTI
infections and bronchitis and other allergy type things over the years.
Funny how I never related any of this to drinking milk or eating cheese.
Its probably too early to tell whether cutting out dairy is going to have
any major influence on my symptoms, but even after only 2 weeks I am feeling
a little more energy and a little less out of control. Though I am having
some difficulties adjusting cooking and eating habits of a lifetime, this
list is really helpful and I'm glad I've found you.

cheers all

Kathy in West Oz
