My no-milk interest is currently "just" lactose intolerance, but I have a
very serious allergy to fish (not shellfish). I made cards that said:

I have a life-threatening allergy to fish.

Does this food contain fish?

If I eat any fish, or any food that has been cooked with or touched fish, I
will need immediate medical attention.

Please show this card to the chef.

I had friends translate ahead of time into the languages I'd need, and I got
them laminated. (I work with a bunch of linguists and polyglots -- comes in
handy sometimes :)

It also had pictures (green circles versus red with slash through them)
showing that shellfish were ok but regular fish were not. Since there's
not the same kind of confusion with milk, if you want pictures you could
probably just do the red/no one.

I was able to use it an the grocery store as well when buying pre-made
sandwiches with mystery ingredients ;-)
