Gail,

Thanks for your response. I had no idea that milk proteins could stay in
the body and wreak havoc for so long. I have suspected that trace dairy may
be affecting my daughter's behavior as well, but I have never been able to
make the connection between ingestion and behavior. Does hair-pulling and
biting just to blow off extra energy sound familiar? I'm not really sure
what type of behavioral issues you mean.

We've already eliminated dairy from our home and all of her
friends/relatives/caretakers know that she is allergic to dairy, and they
understand the concept of hidden dairy and reading labels, but I don't have
a list to give them. All of our labels are in Dutch (we live in Holland)
and I have no idea what whey, carageenan, ghee, casein, hydrolyzed vegetable
protein, etc. is in Dutch. At this point we simply don't eat anything I
can't identify, which is just about everything with food additives. I like
to cook, so eating whole foods is fine, but it makes eating out impossible
unless I bring food along for Eleanor. And even her father makes a slip-up
occasionally, thinking he spotted a dairy-free label, but forgetting that
"natural flavors" sometimes mean dairy. A slip-up for us thankfully does
not mean that her life is compromised, but I also hope that Eleanor will
outgrow her allergy, rather than develop more allergies and more symptoms
(which is what I did as I grew older). And if the only way to do that is to
be vigilant, then I will have to be vigilant.

Thanks for your input.

Cheryl
