I almost said that *real* Italian bread doesn't have milk in it but backed
off because it was a blanket statement and probably somewhere in Italy they
put milk/cheese/butter in some bread.

In North America (I live in the northern part), a majority of breads have
dairy in them based on what I see in stores. Many are quite good but you
have to wonder why. I suspect it might be because dairy products are
relatively cheap.
