I eat things which contain vegetable fat, but I don't touch anything
with *animal* fat, as I've got no way of knowing whether the fat is beef
or other meat dripping, or dairy derived.

I suppose it's possible that vegetable fat could be contaminated with
dairy.

It depends on how critical the issue is for you as to what decision you
come to. I have an intolerance, not a life-threatening allergy, so my
decision might not be suitable for you if your reason for dairy
avoidance is more critical.
