 I took it to mean that lactic acid is produced in a big pot of whey *and*
 cornstarch *and* potatoes *and* molasses, not either a pot of whey *or* a pot
of
 cornstarch *or* a pot of  potatoes *or* a pot of  molasses.

I checked the book to see if I had typed incorrectly... sure enough it says
AND rather than OR... I assume it is OR as well... they just didn't write it
well!!  :)
