I've used petroleum jelly (Vasoline) on my hands covered with white
gloves when they get really bad. It seals in the moisture so that they
can heal. They usually itch so bad by that point I'd probably try just
about anything. I've also heard of using Crisco.

One thing to remember when using something that locks in moisture like
this is to make sure that the area is very clean and disinfected. It
creates a prime target for an infection to develop.
