Group trying to save former mental hospital cemetery
Associated Press
LEXINGTON, Ky. - The words on the lone tombstone in the Eastern State
Hospital cemetery seem out of place.
"Celebrating their dignity," it reads.
The irony is not lost on Bruce Burris, whose mother was once a patient at
the nation's second-oldest mental hospital. To Burris, there doesn't appear
to be much dignity in the one-acre plot that serves as the final resting
place for perhaps as many as 4,500 former residents.
