The world will experience a dramatic shift in the
distribution of deaths from younger to older ages
and from communicable diseases to noncommunicable
diseases during the next 25 years. In 2005, 19%
of all deaths were among children, 29% were among
adults aged 15–59 years and 53% were among people
aged 60 years and older. By 2030, the respective
proportions will have changed to 9%, 29% and 62%.
