Mental hospital deaths need probe
Published on: 02/19/07
The Georgia General Assembly should move quickly to establish an independent
review commission to examine every death in the state's seven mental
hospitals.
Last week a coalition of advocacy groups and families of patients called on
the Legislature to create such a panel in the wake of 115 suspicious or
unexplained deaths at state hospitals since 2002. The Atlanta
Journal-Constitution reported the deaths in a series of stories last month.
