With mid-term elections approaching, record numbers of Americans are 
turning to the internet for information on politics and campaigns. An 
August 2006 survey finds 26 million people, nearly two-and-a-half 
times as many as in the run-up to the 2002 mid-terms, troll the net 
for political news on a typical day.
