I was dismayed upon hearing the by election results in The
gambia. Many questions sprang to my mind as to the fairness of
the whole electoral process. The more I pondered on this issue,
the more it became evident that The Gambia has a long way to
go in realizing free and fair elections.

The fact that the elections was this close even where the UDP
was victorious is dissapointing. I cannot decipher for the life
in me how after everything the APRC has done to the Gambians
and continues to do, they can still attract this many votes.

If vote buying is the Opposition or anyone else's bone of
contention as far as this election, then
  I agree with Forayaa
that The Gambia can only be liberated if the minds of the
people are liberated first.

If anyone took 25 Dalasis and thus bar themselves from voting
because he or she is being told that their vote does not
count, we have very serious problems. How long will it take
before each and every Gambian knows that their votes do count
and that 25 dalasis is not worth selling your right to vote.
Until we educate our folks back home on what to look for from
a government to determine if it is a government for the people,
we have a long way to go. And while we are it, Yaya continues
to kidnap our people, murder our people and loot our little
resources.
