Suntou, thanks for lifting and encouraging a discussion about ideas
presented by prominent and concern Gambians about the wellbeing of
her people(s). This is one way to constructively reflect over the present
Gambian situation. To help see the forest and not the tree - back to the
issue I have extracted some parts from Mr. Sallah’s July 22nd statement
below.

…The insincere and the ignorant will always pay a price for their folly?
…The moment for decision has come. We must now open our minds to
all ideas in order to have all the views to be able to make informed
choice….

July 22nd could not be fittingly commemorated as liberation day for the
Gambian People. I see it as a day when the work we were doing to
raise the awareness of the people was interrupted and the process of
ensuring the emergence of the sovereign Gambian who is immune to
inducement and intimidation and who is the actual commander of his or
her own destiny, retarded. …(work that is in progress under the PPP
government)

….This is the time to make honest reflection. The question now arises:
What is the state of farming in the country after 30 years of
AFPRC/APRC leadership? ... (30 years most be a typo error. Secondly,
AFPRC existed just under the transition period that is between the first
and second Republic(s))

…At the time of the coup the institutions which should have led to the
growth and development of agriculture had developed and declined. …

…Most women depend on credit or remittances from children abroad to
get status symbols such as jewelry, clothes and contribute to
ceremonies only to live the life of beggars or debtors after such
expenditure….
… live from hand to mouth or manifest a state of artificial prosperity by
acquiring status symbols through credit or patronage for display in
public….

…Cooperative and informal/individual small scale enterprises… (Which
part of the Gambian economy is formal?)
