A Fundamental Tenant Of Democracy!

Am in no way insinuating we go crazy into people's private life.

However, am very concern we might even be harsh on opposing view than our processors. We may put qualifications around freedom of expression and association as it obtains under the previous and current government in The Gambia. Citizens are dragged to court under libel/sedition charges in The Gambia than any other crimes. Such society criminalized opinion. Such environment encourages rumor mills for fear against reprisal. Such societies dampened free flow of information. Such societies are never truly democratic. Such societies thrive on mediocre.

All the recent contentious issues debated amongst us should not only be accepted but also welcome. If one served in public capacity regardless of how far back s/he left office - is legitimate for any free citizen to revisit his or her tenure. Whoever is acting/doing business in the name of the people of The Gambia its democratic at some point you report what you did/did not and equally citizens has all right to question such action/inactions. That includes organizations we formed and operate on behave or name of our people. Its also very legitimate to questions our colleagues role in Yahya administration - why did they choose to join, what did they do/do not to change within, why did they choose to join the struggle now and not then, etc. We also as we have always done question political party activities/non-activities, decisions/non-decisions, etc. These are all matters of public interest and not necessarily pleasant subjects at all time.

I hope we can do this without personalizing it. I understood some are more affected by these than others but the point is that these are matters of The Gambia and not and individual or X-kunda. It will not help us to argue for a NO-GO into those areas as if they never happen/exist. In fact that's a disservice to our cause. It will eventually pop up at a very inopportune time. Better now than later! South Africa has to do "Truth and Reconciliation" yet some are punished for their actions including big names of the struggles. Mandela and his wife (Winnie) has to go apart.......

My point is am seriously concern..............over argument that certain people or topics are no-go zones.

Regards

Burama
