With the timely expose of ineptitude and corruption of the Gambia Customs and
Excise Department on the Gambia Post, Yahya Jammeh was irate at the leaking
of such document to Diasporan's, whom Yahya deemed "enemies." The NIA launched
an investigation within the ranks of Customs Officers and couldn't come up
with a clue of who/whom leaked such document to the Post, hence the big "Kujali"
had to go. Ousman Mboge is being replaced by Officer Tambajang an old hand,
even though, the British advised Jammeh and SOS's to rehire former Director,
Ebou Touray, Manju.
The problems of this Department doesn't lie solely with its officers, but
more so, with the economy. As of July 21, 1994, Customs and Gamtel were the bread
basket of the country. Within two years of Yahya Jammeh's reign, 90% of
reserves from these two, were milked/"NJIROH" by Yahya Jammeh, Ebou Jallow and the
rest of AFPRC's criminal lot. Custom went through 4 or 5 Directors with a
span of nine years. Blame Jammeh, not an entire department.
Sources would like to extend compliments to Gambia Post for such well done
expose. More to come.
