Announcing a new APC Award: the APC Africa Hafkin Communications Prize

APC's Africa Programme is pleased to announce the inaugural APC Africa
'Hafkin' Prize to honour the work of Dr. Nancy J. Hafkin, who has been a
pioneer and innovator in the area of networking, development information,
and electronic communications in Africa, over the course of a twenty-three
year career.

The competition for the USD$7,500.00 Hafkin prize is open to civil society
organisations, government institutions, educational organisations,
community-based groups, networks, social movements or individuals anywhere
in Africa that have successfully initiated and implemented projects that
involve the use of ICTs for development and social justice.

The theme for the 2001 Hafkin Prize is: Women-Led, Women-Informed,
Women-Inspired Initiatives

APC will be accepting nominations for the Hafkin Prize until May 31, 2001.

Nouveau Prix Hafkin des Communications Africaines

Durant ses 23 années de carrière, principalement au sein de la Commission
Economique pour l'Afrique (ECA-NU) à Addis Abbeba, le docteur Nancy J.
Hafkin fut une pionnière et une innovatrice dans les domaines du travail
en réseau et du développement de l'information et de la communication
électronique en Afrique.

Le prix Hafkin, récompensé d'un montant de 7500 $US, est accessible aux
organisations de la Société Civile, institutions gouvernementales,
organisations éducatives, groupes communautaires, réseaux, mouvements
sociaux ou individus de n'importe quel lieu d'Afrique ayant initié et
monté avec succès des projets qui impliquent l'utilisation des TIC comme
composante essentielle de leur action pour le développement et à la
Justice Sociale.

 Le thème retenu pour le Prix Hafkin 2001 est : Initiatives de Femmes
Meneuses, Femmes Informées, Femmes Inspirées. APC accepte les candidatures
pour le Prix Hafkin jusqu'au 31 Mai 2001.
