Pam,
You have raised interesting questions for Mr.Sallah to answer. And I am
very positive this gentleman will response in due course.I
would, however, like to throw light to one of your questions : "What is the
cause for your defeats in the last general elections(1996)?"
To know why Halifa is unable to win in Sere Kunda East one needs to
understand the electoral college in the Gambia. The reason is not that the
voters in Sere Kunda East or in the Gambia in particular are backward. The
answer is far from that. The electoral system in the Gambia is such that one
has to practice money politics to win the support of the voters. The money
politics had been in existence since during the former regime and is not
that easy and smooth for people to graduate from this.Halifa's political
strategy is to enlight the masses about their role and those governing then
with this awareness the voters will be in the position to make an informed
decision on who to vote for.Not most can get Halifa's style of
politicking. This is why Halifa can't as at now.
God bless The Gambia and Africa.
