The Alliance for Democracy in Africa will hold a reception to honour its Board
of Directors and supporters at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2001. The event
will be moderated by Queen McLeod, Director, Armour J. Blackburn Center, and
will feature two keynote speakers, namely: Professor George Ayittey, President,
The Free Africa Foundation, who will speak on "The Role of Education in
Promoting Democracy in Africa"; and Professor Sulayman Nyang, African Studies
Department, Howard University, who will speak on "Democracy and Islam: What is
the Relationship?" The reception will be held at the Armour J. Blackburn
Center, Howard University, 2400 6th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C.

Attendance is free, but tax-deductible donations will be greatly appreciated
and will go towards ADA's African Student Scholarship Fund. This Fund is
dedicated to sponsoring African youth whose families cannot meet the expense of
primary and secondary education. If you are unable to attend but wish to make a
contribution, please make a check payable to the Alliance for Democracy in
Africa.
